2003 | 2004 | 2005 | 2006
Joel Fafard
April 11th, 2008

Joel Fafard is that rare breed of instrumentalist: the kind whose appeal reaches far beyond the realm of serious guitar enthusiasts. The gifted slide fingerstyle player writes stirring, melodic compositions that paint pictures as vivid as any song with words. He introduces them on-stage with hilarious commentary delivered in a "hillbilly farm-boy" stage persona that quickly wins his audience over. And when he sinks his chops into a number like "Face Down in the Rhubarb," well, let's just say the serious guitar enthusiasts aren't disappointed either. 2007 Juno nominee, 2006 WCMA winner, 2006 CFMA nominee, 2004 WCMA nominee - http://www.joelfafard.com

Annie Gallup
October 20th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
Mountain Air House Concerts of Placerville & Q Note Productions present:
ANNIE GALLUP's writing is unabashedly imaginative and richly sensual. She is a teller of short, elaborate tales -- song-length works of fiction that sparkle with the complexity and polish of poetry; tightly packed lyrical strands that crackle with intelligence and spry wordplay, and pulse with insistent rhythm. Hold Annie's work up to that of many contemporary literary lions: she's the real thing. "She sounds like the musical daughter of Joni Mitchell and Lou Reed, simultaneously confident and vulnerable, a practiced storyteller and poet whose stream-of-consciousness narratives of strange but vivid characters share space with diamond-cut confessional vignettes of off-center and sometimes reckless romances. Her lyrics are complex and often non-linear, but well worth following, her quiet but careful guitar accompaniment a well-matched frame." -- Dirty Linen

Hear Annie live on KVMR FM Nevada City 89.5 , Saturday at 8:30am on the "Backroads" show by Larry Hillberg.

Suggested donation: $17

Dan Crary & Friends

Guitar legend Dan Crary appears Friday, May 18th, 8pm at the Jack Russell Brewing Co. in Camino, CA.
It is no exaggeration to say Dan has been a driving force in the evolution and popularity of the steel stringed guitar. He is a veteran performer, both as a soloist and in well known ensembles such as Berline, Crary, and Hickman, IBMA instrumental band of the year California , The Buegrass Alliance, Men of Steel, plus many collaborations with other artists. He most recently co-wrote, produced and starred in a major stage production, Primal Twang, soon to be released on DVD. Joining Dan on dobro and pedal steel is multi instrumentatilst Pete Grant, a versatile musician who has played with a veritable who's who of major artists in almost all genres, and on mandolin, Hugh Hoeger, a well known local picker and long time member of the Piney Creek Weasels, Sierra Blue, and other area groups.

Laurie Lewis & The Right Hands
Thursday, March 22nd 7:30 p.m.

Jack Russell Brewing Co. in Camino, California will feature Laurie Lewis & The Right Hands!! You can't measure Laurie Lewis's 30- year career with the usual commercial yardsticks. She has won a Grammy (True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe, 1997) and twice been named Female Vocalist of the Year by the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association). "Judging by the respect she has among fans and peers in the industry," says IBMA executive director Dan Hays, "Laurie is one of the pre-eminent bluegrass and Americana artists of our time. She spreads her talent over several genres—bluegrass, folk, country—and with the recognition she has within all those fields, I would certainly say she's one of the top five female artists of the last 30 years. And she continues to make great music."

Flatpicking guitar legend, Dan Crary, and his long time friend (and musical partner from the award winning bluegrass band CALIFORNIA), singer and songwriter, Steve Spurgin, have frequently talked about making music together a little more often. THUNDERATION showcases all their talents, instrumentally, vocally, and with superb traditional and original songs. Curtis & Loretta
May 5th, 7:30 pm, Historic Kelsey Schoolhouse

Touring in support of their brand new CD, "Just My Heart For You," the husband and wife duo return to their beloved California (they first met each other on the beach in Capitola many years ago). Curtis & Loretta were named "Best Acoustic Performer of the Twin Cities" for 2002 by City Pages (Minneapolis/St. Paul). The entertainment newspaper said their harmonies "represent one of the purest and most accessible pleasures in local music." National folk music magazine, Dirty Linen, praises their "acoustic virtuosity on guitars, Celtic harp, and mandolin."

April Verch
March 18th, 8pm, Jack Russell Brewery

When you see twenty-seven year old April Verch perform, the first thing that strikes you is the pure energy that infuses her fiddle playing and stepdancing. When you listen to Take Me Back, her third disc for Rounder Records, though, what draws you in are more subtle things-her confident, winsome singing, the finely detailed elegance of her fiddle phrasing and the depth of a repertoire that ranges through material from Americana mainstays Buddy and Julie Miller, to simple country songs and rollicking tunes from her native Ottawa Valley to sparkling original instrumentals.

Bob Malone
January 28th, 8pm, Cozmic Cafe,

Voted one of the ‘Best Unsigned Artists in LA’ five years in a row by Music Connection Magazine!

Bob Malone’s music is, in a word, timeless. The sound is pure Americana: an intoxicating distillation of uptown blues, gutbucket New Orleans ragtime stomp, and classic singer/songwriter pop songcraft, delivered with a wry lyrical eye for detail, and the ferocious energy of a great rock and roll piano man. An extraordinarily charismatic performer and classically trained virtuoso musician, he has been best described in review as “a raconteur of the human condition.” Bob Malone’s songs span the musical spectrum from full tilt boogie to the seamless melodies of great ballads that linger like classic standards, all sung with his one-of-a-kind whiskey-cured voice. www.bobmalone.com
